Electro-Acupuncture

How Does Electro-Acupuncture Work?

Electro-acupuncture or electro-stimulation has been used in Chinese medicine since the mid-1900s. Acupuncture needles are placed according to a TCM diagnosis and their effectiveness is enhanced by attaching a small low-voltage electrical device to the needles. Minute electrical pulses are delivered to the needles.

Mary is an EAM certified electro acupuncturist and will work with you to gently calibrate the level of electrical stimulation for effectiveness and comfort. The electro-acupuncture technique stimulates the cells and muscle tissue with pinpoint accuracy, and may be perceived by the patient as tingling or slight muscle twitches. Fellow acupuncturist, Abigail Surasky, demonstrates an electro-acupuncture session in the video below.

It is also used to treat a variety of other conditions some of which are weight gain, hypertension, and nausea.

Electro-acupressure is very safe for most people. However, it is not recommended for patients with a pacemaker, insulin pump, or a history of epilepsy or seizures. A patient with these conditions must inform the acupuncture practitioner of their status.

Electro-stimulation techniques can be very powerful and may provide all of the relief you need. Ask us if electro-stimulation acupuncture is right for you.
