What is Auricular Acupuncture?
Auricular acupuncture was introduced in 1951 by Dr. Paul Nogier, a French medical research scientist. Basing his research on traditional Chinese medicine principles, he recognized the external surface of the ear as a micro-system using point locations to diagnose and treat health conditions.
Auricular acupuncture treatment can be completed using very thin acupuncture needles during a session with an acupuncturist or vaccaria seeds, often called ear seeds, may be placed for extended periods of treatment. The seeds placed with a small piece of adhesive tape are left on the ear for several days.
What Conditions Does Auricular Acupuncture Treat?
A few of the conditions we use auricular acupuncture to treat are pain, smoking cessation, stress, constipation, insomnia, elevated blood pressure, and weight loss. Auricular therapy is often used as a complementary treatment for Post-Traumatic Stress Syndrome (PTSD).
Auricular therapy is quick, effective, and relatively pain-free. It can be used by itself or with other TCM modalities.
