Welcome to Flying Needle

The Flying Needle is a site dedicated to informing those interested in the benefits of Chinese medicine. The name of this site “Flying Needle” is not only a virtually painless acupuncture technique, but it is also a salute to Dr. Mary’s father. The site motto “You were born to Soar!” was inspired by her father, a former pilot whose sensibilities were planted firmly on the ground while his heart soared among the clouds.

Traditional Chinese Medicine

Traditional Chinese Medicine is a holistic approach to healing that dates back thousands of years in Chinese history. Frequently Asked Questions

How safe is Acupuncture?

According to the World Health Organization, acupuncture treatments are considered VERY safe when performed by a licensed acupuncturist. Licensed acupuncturists in the state of Texas are required to have a M.A.O.M (Master of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine) and pass comprehensive national board examinations administered by the National Certification Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (NCCAOM). As required by law, pre-sterilized, disposable, single-use needles are used to ensure your complete safety.  Before you visit any acupuncturist, make sure they are licensed by visiting www. NCCAOM.org.

Does Acupuncture hurt?

Many first-time patients are concerned that acupuncture needles will feel like hypodermic injections at the doctor’s office. They won’t, for one thing the needles are far thinner in diameter than the hypodermic needles. The sensation a patient feels from the needles vary from person to person, but generally needle insertions are not painful.  Patients often describe a heavy, warm, or tingling sensation when they are resting with their needles.  Most patients report a state of deep relaxation and an overall sense of well being during and after a treatment.
